This past weekend's excursion to the Natural Bridge Falls along the Boulder River was a lesson in seizing an opportunity when it presents itself. The weather in Southwest Montana has not exactly been "normal", so far this year. To say the least, this past winter and now the spring have been unusually cold and wet. So, when you see a sunny day on the horizon, you definitely have to make good on plans to get outdoors. Make those outdoors and hiking plans today so that when that bright, sunny day arrives you'll know where to go! :)
Yesterday was a close one. The morning in Bozeman started out sunny; but, by the time I left Bozeman, I was fully convinced that going to Big Timber and on to Natural Bridge Falls would not be a good idea...too many clouds. The alternative plan was to go to Paradise Valley, outside of Livingston, instead. By the time I approached the Livingston exit, however, it became clear that the sun was more likely to shine in and around Big Timer, rather than Paradise. I pressed on to Natural Bridge Falls; and, I am glad I did. During the few breaks in the cloud cover, the Boulder River and Natural Bridge Falls showed their true colors and magic. It's good to...
As the title suggests, it looks like southwest Montana will be getting some long awaited sunshine tomorrow...a Saturday, no less. Make it count. Get out there and enjoy a day hiking in Big Sky Country. Me? I think I'll be headed down to the Boulder River to check out Natural Bridge Falls. :)
Can you believe it?...We're still waking up to snow in southwest Montana. Yes, I know...Practice patience. Summer will be here soon enough. At least we have summertime photos and videos of the upper Madison River, like this, that will keep us going. :)
No, really...Spring is here. Sure it's a little disconcerting that it still wants to snow every now and then; but, buck up! The sun will return before you know it and fly fishing on the rivers of southwest Montana will be magical once again. Just don't wait too long because the snow melt is just around the corner too.
