If you are looking for the ultimate Summer experience, including camping, hiking, and fishing, then visit the Gallatin Canyon right now! The second week of July will be the optimal period in which to visit The Lee Metcalf Wilderness…particularly the Gallatin Canyon.
The worst of the snow melt will have passed, and the Gallatin River will be in prime condition. Hiking trails will be virtually snow free, as well. In fact, the wild flowers will just be starting to take off.

If fishing is what you are looking to do, then refer to the Montana Treasures’ Gallatin River Photo Map to discern where on the river you want to fish.
Many of the photos are taken adjacent to some prime camp ground locations, as well; so, take note of where you may want to camp. You may even be able to figure out where in the campground you want to set up camp.

The Ousel Falls Trail is perhaps the easiest and most spectacular hiking trail on the map; and, it can be found just a few minutes from Big Sky town center.
One of the more scenic hikes in Big Sky, Montana is also one of the easiest.
