Recently, I had the pleasure of hiking in some familiar places within southwest Montana, comparing Winter and Summer landscapes.
I was immediately struck by the contrast between each destination’s Summer and Winter displays.
Yellowstone River, Paradise Valley
While most destinations in Winter appear to be devoid of color…upon closer inspection they are actually comprised of an almost limitless palette of blues and greens.
Arch Falls, Hyalite Creek Trail, Bozeman
Summer’s sounds of rushing water are replaced with the gurgling and trickling sounds of Winter’s icy landscape.
Ousel Falls, Big Sky
Sounds that do escape Winter’s embrace are quickly muffled by the surrounding blankets of snow. One of a kind ice and snow sculptures, not long for this world, rule the day.
Grotto Falls, Hyalite Creek Trail, Bozeman
From Winter to Summer, you can count on the beauty of Montana…It does not waiver. That is why I love Montana, The Last Best Place.
